Crushing '21

Now is the time to forge your plan.

I got on the waiting list for the Concept 2 Rower. It will be about six weeks so I should get it in late December. I’m freaking psyched!

I’m going to add rowing to my workouts in 2021, which will provide a new challenge and more variety.

This brings me to today’s discussion about New Year’s Resolutions. Yes, I realize it’s still November so it seems early to be talking about this.

And that is precisely point.

Resolutions

There's a reason why New Year's Resolutions fail notoriously.

When we make sweeping pledges while tipsy and partying on December 31, we’re setting ourselves up for the February fizzle. Gyms get a ton of new signups in January and super crowded only to thin back out a month or so later.

Blame impulsive time perspective, poor planning, and a lack of mental preparation.

Still the idea is good. New year - new you. Rebirth. Phoenix Rising. Revolutions are infinite. The imagery is mythical for good reason.

So how can we leverage the new year more effectively to enact personal improvement? How can we increase the probability of success?

We're heading into the home stretch of 2020. We have a little over 6 weeks left. Now is the time to begin contemplating, researching, and making an action plan! Here are some questions to answer now:

What is the change you want to make?

How will it make your life better?

What are the resources you will need?

Can I imagine myself enacting the change? (Do this one repeatedly. It can be a form of meditation while sitting, walking, in the shower etc..)

Who are people in my community that I can reach out to for wisdom and support?

What is your plan?

You have six weeks to prepare!

I will not be getting a Phoenix Tattoo in 2021 but here are a bunch of them to scroll through if you’re in the market. 😉
